Whats happening 2012

We want this year's carnival to be the best ever and we are trying our best to provide something for everybody, the medieval theme will continue on the field with side shows from "The Tom Show" who will pass his whole body through a tennis racket, sword swallowing and the bed of nails, plus the Medieval Foot Tournament with knights, squires, ladies, tents, combat, arm and dress the knight.
Also why not pay a visit to the Mobile Mini Zoo where you can hold a Mexican Red Knee Tarantula or Corn snake and many more if your feeling brave !
Add to this the marching bands, stalls, the dog show and the children's rides and I think you will agree that you wont want to miss the Wirksworth Carnival this year

Look Up, here they come.  The Tigers parachute display team which are from The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment's Parachute display team - "The Tigers" - Dropping into the arena, smoke trailing, flags flying, performing several amazing formations both in the air and under the parachute. This is one display that you wont want to miss !

They may be flying in on parachutes.  But this year we are going Medieval. Dress up in your best knights costume and join the fun.. but watch out for these Medieval guys, they mean business...

Hello

Held every Spring Bank Holiday, Wirksworth hosts the best Carnival celebration of its kind in the area.   Each year the streets of Wirksworth come alive with the sounds and smells of our street festival.   The Carnival has a full programme of exciting events to entertain and amuse the many carnival revellers who come to the town.  The Parade is stunning and gets better each year, the route is lined with lots and lots of people enjoying the many people in fancy dress, the extravagantly decorated floats, the marching bands and children having fun.  Why not join us this year, its a memory in the making.

Message from the Chairman

Hello!

Firstly on behalf of the Well Dressing and Carnival Committee, may I welcome you all both residents and visitors to our town of

Wirksworth, in joining us in our Well Dressing and Carnival festivities for 2012.

Over the past few year’s we have had many different theme’s for the parade, this year we couldn’t decide which one to go with, so we decided to carry out a poll through our face book page and the most popular theme was medieval.

The theme this year will continue on the field with a medieval re-enactment group with many displays and even a chance to dress up in battle dress, also there will be “The Tom Show” which is a funny one man show with sword swallowing and bed of nails, you can also watch in disbelieve as Tom passes his whole body through a tennis racket add to this the birds of prey

and the medieval story telling tent.

But that’s not all there is to see at this years carnival the highlight of the afternoon will be the world famous parachute display team from the Prince of Wales regiment called “The Tiger’s” with smoke trailing and flags waving, performing several amazing formations both in the air and under the canopy of their colourful parachutes safely dropping into the arena.

As always there will be stalls and children’s rides with bouncy castles etc and the mobile mini zoo where you hold a corn snake or if your feeling brave there’s the Mexican red knee tarantula and other various creepy crawlies. I think that you will agree that you wont want to miss out and you will support the Wirksworth Carnival this year ! ……..

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have contributed to the carnival this year, including the committee members their families, the sponsors, advertises and the unnamed helpers who have given up their time and made every effort to make sure everything goes according to plan to make it a memorable event.

Special thanks go to the local Clergy and members of the BMW brass band for the blessing of the wells and the crowning ceremony, and also thanks go to local police and the marshal’s for making sure everything goes smoothly over the weekend.

A very big thank you goes to our retiring Royalty, and this year’s

Carnival Royalty and also their parents for their support, may I wish them every success in all they do.

We hope the rain keeps off and that the sun will shine, we hope you all enjoy yourselves during the weekend.

Thank you for purchasing this programme and supporting the Wirksworth Carnival.

Chris Booth

Chairman
